What is All-on-4?

All-on-4 replaces a whole arch of teeth with one fixed bridge held by four implants. The two back implants are usually placed at an angle, which often lets the dentist use the bone you already have instead of grafting new bone. The bridge is screwed in place - you don’t take it out at night like a denture.

It is meant for people who have lost most of their teeth in one jaw, or whose remaining teeth can’t be saved. All-on-6 works the same way with six implants, which some dentists prefer when there is enough bone.

Your full-arch timeline

Two visits to Turkey with healing at home in between. Typical; your clinic confirms your plan in writing.

  1. Visit 1 · typically 3–6 days

    Consultation and implant placement

    • Examination and consultation with your dentist
    • CT scan or X-rays to plan where each implant goes
    • Extractions, if any teeth need to come out
    • Implant placement, usually under local anaesthetic
    • Temporary teeth (fixed or removable) may or may not be included - check your quote

If your in-clinic scan changes the plan, ask for the updated plan in writing before treatment starts.

  2. Healing at home · about 3–4 months

The bone grows onto the implants

    • Usually around 3–4 months
    • 4–6 months or more if you need a bone graft or sinus lift
    • Follow your clinic's aftercare advice; tobacco can slow healing
  3. Visit 2 · typically 5–9 days

    Your final fixed bridge

    • Abutments fitted on the healed implants
    • Final bridge made and tried in
    • Fit, bite and colour checks, then adjustments
  4. Aftercare at home · ongoing

Look after them like natural teeth

    • Brush twice a day and clean around the implants with interdental brushes
    • Regular check-ups and hygiene visits with a dentist at home
    • Your &NewMe coordinator stays your contact if anything feels wrong

Visit lengths are what clinics on &NewMe typically plan; your own plan depends on your CT scan and your clinic confirms it in writing. Some people can have teeth fitted soon after placement (immediate loading) - only if the bone allows it, and your dentist decides. Healing times: the Oral Health Foundation says implants usually heal in around four months and the ADA says it can take up to several months; NHS hospital guidance usually leaves a bone graft 3 to 6 months to heal before implant treatment.

Frequently asked questions

How many trips to Turkey do I need?

Usually two: one for the implants (typically 3 to 6 days), and one after about 3 to 4 months of healing - longer with a bone graft or sinus lift - for the final bridge (typically 5 to 9 days). Typical times; your clinic confirms your plan in writing. Some clinics offer a single-trip plan with a longer stay - ask about the trade-offs.

Will I have teeth while the implants heal?

Usually, if your plan includes temporary teeth - they may or may not be included in a quote, so check yours. They are either removable (a temporary denture) or fixed (a bridge screwed onto the implants, possible when the implants are stable enough on surgery day). Fixed temporaries cost more. Whether they are included, the type and the price should be in your written plan, and your clinic confirms it in writing.

Why can removable temporary teeth feel loose?

They are made soon after surgery, while your gums are swollen. As the gums heal and shrink over the next weeks, the fit changes and the temporaries can start to move - the NHS notes that dentures fitted straight after extractions often need adjusting. It is a fit problem, not a sign the implants are failing: tell your coordinator, as a reline or adjustment can help.

How do I look after temporary teeth?

Eat soft, lukewarm food for the first weeks - nothing hard, sticky or very hot - and do not smoke. Removable: rinse after meals, brush them with soft soap rather than toothpaste and keep them in water overnight, unless your clinic says otherwise (NHS). Fixed: brush around them gently and use the rinse your clinic gives you.

What is checked at the second visit?

The dentist checks that each implant has fused with the bone (X-ray and a stability test), that your gums have healed, and how you bite. Then new scans are taken for the final bridge, with try-ins for fit, shape and colour before it is fixed in. Clinics on &NewMe typically ask you to approve the shape and colour first - typical steps; your clinic confirms it in writing.

Is All-on-4 painful?

The surgery is done under local anaesthesia, with sedation if you prefer, so you should not feel pain during it. Afterwards expect soreness and swelling for a few days, usually managed with ordinary painkillers.

Do I need a bone graft?

Often not - angling the back implants is designed to avoid it. A CT scan shows how much bone you have. If grafting or a sinus lift is needed, it is added to your written plan with its price.

Can I have both jaws done at the same time?

Yes, many people do both jaws on the same trips. It means a longer surgery day and both prices apply - the price shown is per jaw.

What is included in the price?

The listed price covers the consultation, a 3D panoramic X-ray, local anaesthesia, four implants and a fixed hybrid porcelain bridge on a titanium bar. Temporary teeth, extractions, grafting, sedation, a CT scan, premium implant brands, flights and hotel are often extra - see the list above and compare written quotes.

What happens if something goes wrong after I get home?

Message your coordinator with photos - the clinic reviews them and tells you whether it can wait for your next visit or needs attention sooner. Minor issues can often be checked by a dentist at home. Ask for the clinic’s guarantee terms in writing before you book.

How All-on-4 works

Four titanium implants go into the jaw - two straight at the front, two angled further back. Within a few days you can get temporary teeth - removable, or a fixed bridge screwed onto the implants - if your plan includes them (check your quote), so you can smile and eat soft food while the bone heals around the implants.

After about 3 to 4 months (longer with a bone graft or sinus lift), once the implants are stable, the dentist takes new scans and makes your final bridge. This is the one you keep. It is screwed in, so only the dentist can take it off for cleaning or repairs.

Two trips: the timeline

A standard implant needs two trips:

  • Trip 1 (typically 3 to 6 days): examination, 3D X-ray or CT scan, any extractions, and the implants are placed under local anaesthetic. Temporary teeth may or may not be included - check your quote.
  • Healing (usually about 3 to 4 months; 4 to 6 months or more with a bone graft or sinus lift): the bone grows onto the implant. The Oral Health Foundation says this usually takes around four months and the ADA says it can take up to several months; NHS hospital guidance usually leaves a bone graft 3 to 6 months to heal before implant treatment.
  • Trip 2 (typically 5 to 9 days): scans, then the final crowns, bridge or denture are made and fitted.

Clinics on &NewMe typically plan a first visit of 3 to 6 days and a second visit of 5 to 9 days - typical times; your clinic confirms your plan in writing. Some people can have implants and teeth fitted in one visit ("immediate loading") - only if the bone and bite allow it; your dentist decides.

Sources: Oral Health Foundation - Dental implants; ADA MouthHealthy - Implants; NHS (Guy's and St Thomas') - Bone grafting for dental implants.

Who is it for?

  • Most or all teeth missing, loose or failing in one jaw
  • A denture that moves, rubs or makes eating hard
  • Enough bone at the front of the jaw - a CT scan confirms this
  • Generally healthy, with gum disease treated first

Smoking and poorly controlled diabetes raise the risk of implants failing - your dentist will ask about both. If you have very little bone left, you may need a bone graft or a different technique (such as zygomatic implants), which changes the plan and the price.

All-on-4, All-on-6 or a denture?

All-on-4 uses the fewest implants and often avoids grafting. All-on-6 spreads the bite over six implants, which some dentists prefer for the upper jaw or for heavy biters - it needs more bone and costs more. A removable denture is the cheapest option but can move and covers the palate. Implant-retained overdentures sit in between: they clip onto 2–4 implants but still come out. Ask your dentist which one fits your bone, bite and budget.

What is the bridge made of?

Most full-arch bridges have a rigid titanium bar inside. On top sits either acrylic teeth (lightest and cheapest, but they wear faster), porcelain-fused teeth (a hybrid - the option in our listed price), or monolithic zirconia (the strongest and most natural-looking, and the most expensive). Your written plan should name both the implant system and the bridge material.

How long does it last?

Long-term studies report that most full-arch implants and bridges are still working after ten years. The implants themselves can last decades with good care. The bridge takes the wear: acrylic teeth may need replacing after 5–10 years, porcelain or zirconia usually lasts longer. Regular hygienist visits and wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth make the biggest difference.

Risks and what can go wrong

  • Swelling, bruising and some discomfort for the first days - normal
  • Infection around an implant, or an implant that does not fuse with the bone
  • Temporary or, rarely, lasting numbness of the lip or chin (lower jaw)
  • Sinus problems after upper-jaw implants
  • Chipped teeth or a loose screw on the bridge
  • Gum inflammation around implants years later (peri-implantitis) if cleaning is poor

If one implant fails, the bridge usually has to come off while it is replaced. Ask what your clinic does - and who pays - if that happens.

Recovery after surgery

Expect swelling for 3–5 days; most people are back at a desk job within a week. You eat soft food for the first weeks - on temporary teeth if your plan includes them - then build up slowly. Avoid smoking and alcohol while the implants heal, and keep the check-ups your clinic gives you.

Looking after your new teeth

Brush twice a day, and clean under the bridge with a water flosser or interdental brushes - food collects there. Plan a hygienist visit every 6–12 months (your dentist at home can do this) and a check at your clinic when you are back in Istanbul.

If something isn't right after you're home

  • Your &NewMe coordinator stays with you after you fly home - send photos and a description first; the clinic reviews them and tells you whether it can wait for your next visit.
  • Keep a dentist at home for check-ups and hygiene visits. A loose crown or a chipped veneer can often be checked locally first.
  • Ask before you book what follow-up is included and what happens if work has to be corrected - the Oral Health Foundation lists this among the key questions, because corrections at home can be expensive.

For swelling that gets worse, a fever, pus or severe pain, see a dentist or doctor at home straight away, then tell your coordinator.

Guarantees

Some clinics offer a guarantee on implants, crowns or veneers. It is set by the clinic, not by &NewMe, and the terms differ: what is covered, for how long, whether you must return for check-ups, and who pays for flights if something has to be redone. No guarantee is listed with the prices on this page - if a clinic offers one, it is written in your quote, and only that wording counts. The Oral Health Foundation suggests asking these questions before you book.

How do I choose a clinic?

  • A clinic registered with the Turkish Ministry of Health - for international patients you can check it on HealthTürkiye, the Ministry's portal. On &NewMe the Verified by &NewMe badge only appears when we have checked that registration (and, for a named dentist, their own HealthTürkiye record).
  • A named dentist for your treatment, and who places the implants.
  • A written plan with every item and unit price: implant brand, abutment, crown material, grafts, temporary teeth, the number of trips.
  • Before-and-after photos of similar cases, and reviews on independent sites.

Many dental clinics work as a team - the clinic is the provider and names the dentist in your plan. How we verify
